How is Coaching different for Matrix teams?

The Solution Focused coaching approach has been supporting organizations worldwide equip their managers with a set of easy to use coaching tools but primarily with a changed mindset which enables managers to focus more on their people's resources.

As Atom Wave, we perceive our major role to be able to manifest to our clients how they can transfer all the coaching attitude and behaviors in their reality. Although not always clearly declared in the coaching providers' market, coaching a client as an external coach, to coaching a report as a coach-manager is a completely different story and hopefully quite obvious why. But within an organization, there are again some important adaptations to make in order for coaching techniques to work.

So, recently we designed a tailored program of "Solution Focused Collaborative Coaching" for a major bank in Greece. The program addressed a team of  15 Area Managers supervising the sales people of about 200 branches of this bank. So the program had to address the following questions, how do managers need to adapt their coaching when there is no direct hierarchical relationship? How do they gain respect and build rapport? How do they manage the relationship with the functional boss of their coworker-coachee? These were the considerations we had to make in order to design this "fresh" program for Matrix coaching. The program was just completed and participants found it applicable and useful with a 4.8 / 5.0 scale.
