Mentoring Definition

The practice of Mentoring within organizations is dynamic and evolving in a rapidly changing global context.

Atom Wave, in line with the latest definition by EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) views Mentoring as: "A learning relationship, whereby Mentor shares skills, knowledge, and expertise with mentee through developmental conversations, experience sharing, and role modelling. Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations (USA) found that mentoring programs increased minority representation in administrative positions from 9% to 24% compared to -2% to 18% achieved with other diversity actions.

Building Blocks of Successful Mentoring Programs

A mediocre mentoring progam is worse than no mentoring. Unfortunately, corporate mentoring programs often fail because they have not been well designed. Mentors that are too busy, or disinterested are selected. No training or very basic training is provided. No reward or incentive is planned for those mentors that contribute in the program.
